The Fairies Surviving The Winter

 The Fairy House we built for our front porch this summer is providing great shelter for the little fairies in our neighborhood this winter.  Made from a Halloween Pumpkin of twigs that I got from Target, we added a moss roof (which has turned brown from the sun) and some interesting pieces of wood & bark to keep the inside nice & dry.  Inside are 2 floors of living...a cute little birds nest bed with a feathery comforter is upstairs in the loft and downstairs is a table w/ tea, a cheery "lit" fireplace and a soft moss arm chair.  I think the little directional welcome sign blew away during the last wind storm.  We'll be remaking that soon!

Here's a view of the cozy interior!  A ladder to the loft and a roaring fire is keeping our fairies around.  Everyone loves to take a peek inside when they come to visit...even the UPS man!

The Cinnamon Stick House - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

I found this sweet little dollhouse in a local junk shop!  Construction to "fairy-ize" it is under way!  It is not currently spoken for, so if anyone is interested please contact me and I customize it for you along the way!  I'm calling it the "Cinnamon Stick House."  I will update photos as I go along.

Here I have added a thatched roof by using the inside liner from a hanging planter.  I built some wooden, terra cotta colored window boxes and filled them with Baby's Breath, pine cones and some other pretty goodies.  More branches will be added for camaflouge and soon you will see the pictures with the addition of the cinnamon sticks...hence the name!

Amelia's...Red, White & Blue Cottage Upon Arrival

I finally got pictures from my brother of my niece Amelia when she received her fairy house back in October for her birthday.  It just happened to arrive when she & her brother had a few friends over.  I could not have asked for a better market research group for the "unveiling" of my first fairy house.  My sister-in-law said that 7 year old girls were thrilled, but she was amazed that she had to finally tell the 8, 9 & 10 year old boys to let Amelia play with her new house. Even 3 year old Jack was playing.  Yeah!  I'm so excited!  I could the excited in her voice when she called me on the phone, but seeing her smile is a worth a million!  Enjoy!

Our Own Personal Fairy Dollhouse Being Built

After months of "bugging" the kids and I started their fairy house....We got this old Victorian dollhouse from someone's garage!  It was in rough shape and would not be a very good house for someone who wanted to do it the traditional way.  Luckily for us, we are happy to "rough it up" and it's easy to hide the uneven & sloppy construction under bark, twigs & pinecones!  Ryan loved staining it and we'll keep posting our progress.

The attic is the "boy" fairies room!  Complete with star gazing ceiling & birds nest bed.

Using at least 4 different types of bark it took over 5 hours to do the roof.

Pinecones have been added to the top of one roof, the bark is done, green grasses have been added for texture & color and we've made shutters out of some willowy, dried fall flowers.

 

 

 

 

 

The Fairy Forest House - Christmas Gift #2

I finally gave my nieces Erin & Jessie (two of my best assistants when in the forest foraging for fairy supplies) and two little girls who "Do Believe in Fairies!"  They were thrilled to see that I used the moss that we got on one of our trips this summer to Stokes Forest in NJ for the roof of their dollhouse!  Here is the final result of their house!
